SAINT PETER CLAVER JUSTICE MINISTRY / HOPE

St. Peter Claver Justice Ministry/HOPE puts faith into action in two ways.

1. We host church and community events that honor our history and build unity.
We plan and lead events that bring our church together and serve the wider community, including:

            MLK programs

            Juneteenth events

           Kwanzaa celebrations

Other education, service, and unity events

These events keep our story alive, strengthen our bonds, and help our church stay present in the life of the                 community.

2. We organize with HOPE to win real changes in Hillsborough County.

HOPE is the Hillsborough Organization for Progress and Equality. It is a non-profit, non-partisan, faith-based               coalition of congregations across Hillsborough County. HOPE does not provide direct services. HOPE organizes           people to win public solutions by listening to families, researching solutions,  bringing people to public actions,           and following up until promises become results.  When leaders see faith communities united, they respond.               Your attendance, your voice, and your follow-up help turn “maybe” into “yes,” and then into action.

       OUR CURRENT FOCUS:

             *Youth and Education

Families with children who need special education support deserve clear communication, clear timelines,                     and real help. We push for a simple pathway so parents are not sent in circles.

            *Affordable Housing

Public dollars and public land must be used for affordable housing as promised. We push for clear plans,                     clear timelines, and accountability.

            *Flooding and Stormwater

East Tampa neighborhoods need strong drainage systems. We push for project start dates, full funding, and                completion of remaining ponds.

            *Adult Pre-Arrest Diversion Program (APAD)

HOPE won APAD by organizing large public actions and pressing the Sheriff and criminal justice leaders to                     expand diversion instead of arrest for eligible adults charged with low-level offenses. After they made the                     commitment, HOPE kept following up, and we now monitor the program to make sure it stays active, fair,                     and transparent for our community.
